Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Behind a solid defensive effort and 12 players in the scoring column, Northwest led from start-to-finish in an 89-71 road win over Arkansas Baptist Monday night.
Northwest improved to 4-0, while ABC dropped to 1-4 on the young season.
The Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Buffaloes 22-2 to start the game and held ABC 0-for-14 from the field in the game's opening 9:19.
Northwest led 52-31 at the half behind 47 percent shooting, while ABC shot just 26 percent.
Sophomore
Jacquelyn Brooks had her best collegiate performance in 18 minutes, scoring nine points and adding 13 rebounds and six blocks, five of those coming in the first half.
ABC got within nine, 57-48, with 13:29 to play, but an 18-7 spurt, sparked by
Aspriona Gilbert's put-back layup, stretched the lead back out to 20.
Gilbert closed with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds, while
Tekevanna Young added 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Alyssia King had eight points and six assists in 21 minutes off the bench.
ABC had four scorers in double figures, including Meyonsha Riddles (21), Chelsea Payne (13), Kaylen Taylor (11) and Emani Hamilton (10). April Phelix had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Northwest will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 13 against Hinds. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. in Senatobia.
