Box Score ELLISVILLE – The Northwest women's soccer team was defeated Saturday afternoon in the state semifinals by Hinds, 2-0, ending a record-setting season for the Lady Rangers.
Hinds improved to 11-3-2 on the season and advances to the championship game against Pearl River, while Northwest's season came to a close at 10-5-4.
The Lady Eagles took control of the game early when Amber Thomas (4) scored the first goal in the 7th minute. Another goal came shortly after in the 19th minute when Taylor Maddox sent a cross into the box to be finished by Alexa Johnston (4).
Hinds kept its 2-0 lead going into the half and to finish the game.
The tempo picked up for the Lady Rangers in the second half with big defensive stops from the back line by
Breanna Kitchens,
Sidney Bond,
Kayleigh Sims and
Kayla Boutwell, but Northwest just couldn't find its offense.
Northwest put up three shots compared to Hinds' 23 for the game. Hinds also owned a 7-0 edge in corners.
Ashley Nelson came away with only two goals against and nine saves, ending the season with 135.Northwest's 10-5-4 finish marks the most wins in a season since 2006, while their 11 shutouts are a new single-season school record. The Lady Rangers also enjoyed their first-ever national ranking at No. 19 during the year.
