Lewisburg Trio inks with Northwest

OLIVE BRANCH – Northwest baseball picked up three more signees on Tuesday afternoon as Hunter Wilson, Jonathan Lindsey and Cody Cooper from Lewisburg High School all signed national letters of intent to play for Mark Carson and the Rangers next season.

Lewisburg, coached by Rusty Cagle, is the reigning 4A State Champions after defeating Newton County 2-1 in a best-of-3 series to finish the season 30-8 overall (10-0 in district play).

Wilson is a shortstop (5-9/170) who hit .352 last season with six doubles, two triples, 35 RBIs, 30 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. He owned a .425 on-base percentage and fielded .927.

"Hunter brings high energy and will accept a leadership role with his gamer mentality," assistant coach Bill Selby said. "He was very successful in high school and we hope that transitions well over here."

Lindsey is a left-handed pitcher/outfielder (5-10/175) who went 10-2 with a 2.32 ERA, complete game and a save. He appeared in 18 games and struck out 68 batters in 69.1 innings of work.

"Lindsey is a front-line starter and is a bulldog on the mound. He's the cornerstone of their staff and that leadership can certainly transfer to a higher level," Selby said.

Cooper is a catcher (5-10/200) who hit .296 with 11 doubles, two home runs and 29 RBIs. He fielded .989 from behind the plate with 258 putouts and 17 assists and also threw out 13 baserunners.

"Cody brings a big bat and is already solid behind the plate with room to improve," assistant coach Taylor Walker said. "He's a hard worker and will have the chance to compete for the starting job behind the plate."

This brings Northwest's 2015 signing class up to seven players, with a few more expected in the coming days.

Seated (L to R): Hunter Wilson, Jonathan Lindsey and Cody Cooper.
