MYRTLE – Colt Smith, a former 4A state champion at Lewisburg High School now at Myrtle, has signed a national letter of intent to play for head baseball coach
Mark Carson and the Northwest Rangers.
"Colt brings a big arm to our signing class for next year," Carson said. "He has a good fastball and good feel for a slider that will only get better as he gets stronger. He's a young man that knows how to pitch and has a high ceiling for getting much better during the next two years. We are very excited to have him as a Ranger."
Smith is a 6-foot-3, 165-pound right-hander and was a Second Team All-DeSoto County selection as a junior. He went 4-3 with a 2.32 ERA in 48.1 innings pitched, striking out 36 and allowing just 16 earned runs and three extra-base hits. At the plate, Smith hit .264 with eight doubles, a home run and 19 RBIs.
Smith is the second official signee for the Rangers' class of 2015.
