Northwest Tops East Central, 3-1

Box Score SENATOBIA – Northwest stayed one game back of Hinds for first place in the north division with an impressive 3-1 win over East Central on a humid and rainy Friday afternoon at the Ranger Soccer Complex. 

Northwest moved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the division, while East Central fell to 2-6 and 0-4. 

Sophomore Kristin Young broke a scoreless tie in the 44th minute when her shot deflected off a Lady Warrior defender and into the net for her first goal of the season. 

Freshman Sidney Bond netted her first collegiate goal in the 61st minute (the game-winner) to give the Lady Rangers a 2-0 lead, as her shot went untouched through the box and past Alana Turner for the goal. Alex Jones added her fourth goal of the season in the 67th minute to make it 3-0.

East Central got on the board with 2:01 to play, as Makenzie Rowzee scored to make the final 3-1. 

Northwest dominated the stat sheet with 29 shots against just 11 for East Central, including 17-5 shots-on-goal. The Lady Rangers had a season-high 18 shots in the first half. 

Morgan Wilson had four saves in the win, while Turner had 14 for the Lady Warriors in the loss.

Northwest will be back home again on Tuesday, Sept. 24, hosting Southwest Mississippi at 2 p.m. for its Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
