Trio of Rangers Earn Capital One Academic All-District Honors

SENATOBIA – Outfielder Kyle Blount, pitcher Jeremy Massie and infielder Bradley Noland of Northwest have been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The trio of sophomores are the first-ever baseball selections in the school's history and helped Northwest to a 25-23 season record – the sixth consecutive season with 25 or more wins under head coach Mark Carson.

An Independence native, Blount carried a perfect 4.00 GPA in exercise science. In the outfield, Blount doubled his production from a year ago in hits, runs scored, doubles and RBIs and committed just two errors in 55 career chances with three assists.

Massie went 4-2 with a 3.57 ERA on the hill, tossing three complete games in seven starts this year over 47 innings of work. He struck out 46 against 13 walks and also picked off four runners. The Sardis native was second among 17 sophomores with a 3.56 GPA in secondary education.

Noland closed his Northwest career with 107 hits, the 11th-most in school history. The Collierville, Tenn., product is just the third player to win the batting crown in back-to-back seasons, hitting .366 in 2011 and .362 in 2012. This season, Noland led the team in average, hits, multi-hit games, doubles, triples, walks and runs scored. He was also solid in the classroom with a 3.40 GPA in exercise science.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve (at least 50 percent of the team's games) and completed one academic year with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

All three are now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America team honors which will be announced on Tuesday, May 29. | 2012 Academic All-District Baseball Teams
