SENATOBIA – Two more Rangers will continue their baseball careers at four-year schools, with left-hander
Bill Higdon signing with Christian Brothers and shortstop
Josh Johnson signing at Arkansas Tech.
Higdon and Johnson push the list of four-year signees out to four from the class of 2012, with 2B Bradley Noland (North Alabama) and OF Dex Herrington (Delta State) signing two weeks ago.
A native of Olive Branch, Higdon appeared in 14 career games on the mound, posting a 4.03 ERA and two combined shutouts in 24.1 innings of work. Higdon struck out 20 batters against 24 career walks and allowed just seven extra-base hits.
Johnson, a two-year starter from Water Valley, started in 78 of 87 career games played and posted a .290 lifetime batting average. Johnson had 13 doubles, two triples, drove in 36 runs and scored 55 more in two seasons. He made his mark on the basepaths, stealing a school-record 52 bases (52-of-57) to break Chad Wardlaw's career record of 50.
With a sophomore class of 17, several more Rangers are expected to sign in the coming weeks.
