SENATOBIA – Northwest sophomore first baseman
Jimmy Braswell of Senatobia has signed to play for head baseball coach Shawn Yarbrough and Mid-Continent University (Ky.) for his final two seasons, becoming the eighth Ranger from the Class of 2012 to sign on at a four-year school.
Braswell will join former Ranger teammate, Joseph Blair, who started in 32 games behind the plate for the Cougars last year and hit .333 – second-best on the team.
Braswell played in 69 career games (67 starts) at first base, on the mound and in the designated hitter slot for the Rangers the last two years. Braswell closed his career as a .297 lifetime hitter with seven doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 44 runs scored and 27 RBIs and also went 1-2 with a 3.43 ERA and three saves on the mound.
Last season, Braswell started in 38 games at first base, carrying a .986 fielding percentage in 276 chances. He hit a career-best .311 with five home runs and also boasted a team-best 14-game hit streak and 18-game on-base streak during the season.
Mid-Continent University is a member of the TranSouth Athletic Conference and competes in the NAIA. The Cougars are coming off a 27-37 season and an at-large berth in the NCCAA Division I World Series.
