CLINTON – Sophomore catcher
J.D. Tackett of Northwest will play his next two seasons for head coach Brian Owens and Mississippi College, making him the fourth Ranger in two years to commit to the Choctaws.
"He's a good catch and throw guy who will bring a good left-handed bat into the MC program," Northwest head coach
Mark Carson said.
In 39 games played (28 starts) the past two seasons, Tackett hit .222 from the plate with four doubles, a home run and 11 RBIs. He threw out nine runners from behind the plate and boasted a .983 fielding percentage in 175 career chances.
Tackett played in 24 games (23 starts) for the league champion Golden Triangle Jets in the summer of 2012, hitting .284 with three doubles, nine RBIs, 11 runs scored and a .422 on-base percentage.
Tackett is one of six Rangers from the Class of 2013 to sign/commit to a four-year school. MC is a member of NCAA Division III and does not offer athletic scholarships.
