GOODMAN – Northwest freshman left-hander Domenick Carlini of Nesbit has been selected the MACJC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Monday, Feb. 18 through Sunday, Feb. 24.

Carlini, who played his high school ball at DeSoto Central, wins the weekly award in its first week and went on to also gain NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week honors.

Carlini shined in his Ranger debut in an 8-3 win over Southwest Tennessee, striking out 12 batters against just two walks in 7 innings of work to earn his first collegiate win. Carlini retired 11 consecutive batters at one point and allowed six hits and two runs.

"I was extremely nervous, more nervous than I thought I would be, in my first start," Carlini said. "It's the most strikeouts I've had in my career. I felt pretty good and after the first inning I settled down."

Northwest returns to the field on Wednesday, Feb. 27 vs. Dyersburg State. The doubleheader will be played at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn., with first pitch at 2 p.m.
