Jim Miles Field Turf Undergoes Makeover

SENATOBIA – Just two weeks after the completion of a successful baseball season, the soon-to-be named Jim Miles Field is already getting another makeover.

On Thursday, thanks to the folks at Turfplaning Services, the lips were removed around infield grass and pitchers mound. All told, about 2 inches was cut off.

"Our turf planner uses two feet to autograde and it leaves the root structure there so it grows back quick," Brian Colorado said. "It eliminates water problems and drainage and there's no reason to add more dirt because we make the grass meet the dirt."

Laser turf planing is the precision removal of surface irregularities (up to 2 inches) from turf areas in a single pass. Through the use of a g2 turftools, inc., 84” turfplaner equipped with proportional laser, leveling to an accuracy never before attainable of +/-1/4” on existing turf areas (football fields, baseball fields, softball fields, golf courses) is now a reality.

With the use of turfplaning, full recovery of turf and resumption of normal activities on a smooth and consistent surface can be accomplished in as little as three to six weeks.

The company has been operating for about four years and has service providers in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.
