Thomas Leads Field, Rangers Second at Northwest Invitational

OLIVE BRANCH – Behind rounds of 68 from sophomore Cameron Thomas, the second-lowest of his career, and a combined 5-under-par from freshman Chad Cupples, the Northwest men's golf team finished in second place with a two-day total of 581 (286-295) at their annual event. | Final Results

Thomas was the tournament's individual medalist with the lowest combined score of the weekend, beating out Gulf Coast's Jack Sargent (72-67) and Cupples (69-70) by three strokes. All three golfers were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Northwest's second place finish marked its best of the spring after back-to-back third place finishes, and the Rangers have good momentum entering the MACJC State Tournament April 16-17 at River Birch.

"We played really well, but just not enough to overtake Gulf Coast," volunteer assistant Guy Purdy said. "We seem to be playing our best golf right now. Now we're going to get ready for the state tournament next week and are hoping to bring a state championship back to Senatobia."

Freshman Jack Byrd finished in a tie for 11th place with a two-day 148 (73-75), followed by Sam Cooper (76-84) in a T-29th, Dylan Baskins (82-82) in a T-36th and Justin Feathers (87-96) in 48th place.
