SENATOBIA – Northwest closed out its regular season home softball slate in fine fashion on Tuesday afternoon, run-ruling Coahoma twice by 14-0 and 13-1 finals to send eight sophomores out in style.
Northwest improved to 25-13 overall and 13-9 in the north division, closing out the home schedule an impressive 14-4 overall.
Behind inside-the-park home runs from Anna Barham (grand slam) and Rachel Kelly (three-run), the Rangers broke out for 11 runs over the first two innings and never looked back. Chelsey Gilliam added a solo shot in the first.
Casey Baddley allowed just three hits in a complete-game performance, striking out seven.
Barham finished with a career-high six RBIs and Kelly added four in the victory.
The Rangers threw up a 10 spot in the first inning in game two, sending 16 batters to the plate and using five hits and three Lady Tiger errors. Carlie Jenkins' three-run triple highlighted the big start, as the freshman tied a school record with the fifth of her career.
Katelyn Westbrook and Tori Turnipseed each added hits later in the contest, while Gilliam mashed her team-leading fifth home run of the year.
Baddley (11-6) went the distance, picking up six strikeouts in game two to give her 100 on the season.
Northwest will close out the regular season on Saturday at Mississippi Delta.
The Rangers will need Coahoma to win one game over Northeast this weekend to make the state tournament or their season will end in Moorhead.
