Northwest Splits Road Tilt at Holmes

GOODMAN – Looking for a much needed sweep at Holmes on Saturday afternoon, Northwest used a four-hit shutout from Casey Baddley to win the opener 4-0 before dropping a 3-2 game (10 inn.) in the finale.

Northwest moved to 9-5 overall and to 2-4 in the north, while Holmes moved to 5-19 overall and also 2-4 in the north division. Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box

Baddley (4-2) set a new career-high with 10 strikeouts in the game one win, scattering five hits in her first complete game performance of the year and 18th of her career.

Northwest pushed across three runs in the third, using RBIs from Carlie Jenkins and Roxy Kimes. The Rangers would add an insurance run in the fifth off another Kimes RBI, a sac fly to center.

The Rangers out-hit Holmes 9-5 in the win, led by Vicki Johnson who went 3-for-3 in the leadoff spot.

Tied at 1-1 headed to extra innings in game two, the international tiebreaker rule came into effect.

Northwest and Holmes each found runs in the eighth inning, with the Rangers using Baddley's sac fly and the Lady Bulldogs getting a fielder's choice from Samantha Meadows to tie it at 2-2.

Neither team scored in the ninth, and Northwest was able to escape a bases loaded jam with no outs to force the game into 10 innings.

Northwest couldn't find a run in its half of the 10th but Holmes was able to find the game-winning run off Michelle Gregory's RBI-single to left that scored Keana Wash.

Roxy Kimes (4-2) went the full 9 1/3 for Northwest and allowed just four hits and three runs (one earned). Katie Johnston tossed the final six innings in relief of Kelsey Marter and didn't allow a hit to pick up the win.

Northwest will step out of conference play on Tuesday and travel to Jackson, Tenn., for a pair of games against Jackson State CC. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
