De'Sean Dockery hit a jumper and ensuing free throw with 3.4 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Northwest to a thrilling, 91-88 come-from-behind win Monday night over Southern-Shreveport.
Northwest snapped a three-game skid in evening its season record to 4-4 on the year, while the Jaguars lost their fourth in a row to fall to 6-6 on the year.
Northwest led the entire first half and by as many as 15 with 14:28 to play in the first but had to rally from a 9-point second half deficit with under 10 minutes to play in regulation. The Rangers led 51-45 at half.
SUS led for all but 3:59 in the second half and 76-67 with 4:05 remaining.
But the Jaguars missed six of their final nine shots down the stretch as the Rangers went on a 13-4 run.
Trailing by six with 1:07 to play,
Courtney Shannon and
Tristan Moore hit back-to-back layups before two Moore free throws tied the game at 80-all to send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, the game was again tied at 88-all before Dockery hit a jumper from the left wing in transition and was fouled for the go-ahead score.
Rashon Coleman quickly got the ball up the floor and was credited with the game-winning assist after Ladarius Reed had just tied it with 8.9 seconds left for SUS.
Four Rangers scored in double figures, led by Dockery's first career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Moore added 18 points,
Sharwyn McGee added 14 and
Chris Harris had 12 points and eight boards.
As a team, Northwest had 23 assists on 30 field goals with all 10 players who played dishing out at least one.
Donald Francis led SUS with 24 points, followed by Patrick Smith with 20, Yettra Specks with 18 and Mark Gray with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Telvin Marshall had a game-high 15 rebounds and 10 assists.
Northwest will take to the road on Thursday, Dec. 5, opening conference play at Coahoma. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
