Rangers Light up Board in 111-99 Win at MSCC

Box Score WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – Northwest picked up its first win of the season Thursday night at Mid-South as Tristan Moore, Gavin Robinson and De'Sean Dockery each scored 20-plus in a 111-99 victory.

Northwest moved to 1-1 on the year, while Mid-South fell to 1-2. 

Despite being outshot 62 to 39 percent in the opening 20 minutes, Northwest led by seven at the break, 55-48, because of a dominating effort on the glass. The Rangers outrebounded Mid-South 32-13 and pulled down 21 offensive boards that led to 12 second chance points.

Five quick points to start the second half forced the Greyhounds to call a timeout trailing 59-48 with 19:04 to play.

The Rangers continued to pour it on the opening 6 minutes of the second half, building their lead out to a game-high 22 with 14:02 to play. 

But Mid-South would fight back the next 5 minutes and got to within six, 88-82, with 8:14 to play. Jake Veasley hit four consecutive free throws and T.J. Handley hit a pair of 3s as part of a big 25-9 run for the Greyhounds.

The teams would exchange buckets the ensuing few possessions before Dockery and Robinson took over by scoring a combined 15 points over the final 5:14. Robinson then put the exclamation point on the win with 2.3 seconds to go with a thunderous dunk from Dajon Reno as part of an 8-2 run to end the game.

Northwest shot 44 percent for the game against 56 percent shooting for the Greyhounds. The difference in the game was second chance opportunities as the Rangers outrebounded Mid-South 59-31 (34 offensive) and scored 62 points in the paint.

Moore scored a career-high 26 to lead all scorers, followed by 22 from Dockery and 20 points and 11 rebounds from Robinson. Chris Harris added 11 and Sharwyn McGee had nine. MSCC was led by Handley with 24 off the bench and 20 from Veasley.

Northwest will head to Utica on Monday night for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against Hinds.
