Rangers Edge Bulldogs 82-81 in Wild Finish

Box Score UTICA – Freshman De'Sean Dockery scored a game-high 20 points and hit two free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining to lift Northwest to an 82-81 win over Hinds in a tough environment Monday night.

Northwest won its second straight and improved to 2-1, while Hinds fell to 0-1.

With the game knotted at 80-80 with 7 seconds remaining, Dajon Reno stole the ball from Derrick Little and got the outlet to Dockery who was hammered on the way up by Clayton Tate. Because of the hard foul, both teams mouthed a few words back and forth, and Dockery was then blindsided by a questionable technical foul call when he clearly was walking away from the altercation.

Dockery calmly hit both free throws to put the Rangers on top 82-80 before LaDarrius Drain hit the second of two technical free throws to make it 82-81.

After a timeout, Hinds had 2.8 seconds left to find the game-winner, but Drain's 3-point shot hit off the backboard and was rebounded by Dockery to cap the thrilling win.

The teams exchanged nine ties and eight lead changes on the night. Northwest led by as many as 12 in the first half and Hinds led by four with 5:56 to play.

Northwest out-shot the Bulldogs 48 to 42 percent on the night and outscored their bench 44-19 thanks to 20 from Dockery in 25 minutes of action. Sharwyn McGee had 16 points, followed by Reno with 12 and Courtney Shannon with nine points and seven assists.

Hinds had four scorers in double figures, led by JaVorian Lawrence with 20 points and seven boards.

Northwest returns to Howard Coliseum Thursday at 6 p.m. to play host to Arkansas Baptist.
