Box Score SENATOBIA – Freshman goalkeeper
Morgan Wilson picked up a career-high 18 saves and Northwest dodged multiple bullets in earning a scoreless double overtime draw against division-leading Hinds.
Northwest moved to 7-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the north while Hinds moved to 6-8-1 and 5-1-1.
Hinds statistically dominated the game, outshooting Northwest 42-3 on the day and earning eight corners against one for the Lady Rangers.
But the Northwest defense, backed by sophomore
Rachel Elkins and a trio of freshmen in
Jessica Thompson,
Breanna Kitchens and
Sidney Bond, came up with one big defensive play after another and kept Hinds out of the goal. Kitchens single-handedly saved three would-be goals with her body in front of the net.
Northwest had a scoring chance in the game's first minute, but couldn't capitalize.
Emily Williams and
Emily Castoria provided the only other two shots in the contest.
Hinds missed several opportunities high and also hit the crossbar and post on consecutive shot attempts. Darien Ellison had a team-best 11 shots, followed by Morgan Sandifer with eight.
Northwest will return to the pitch on Friday, traveling to Itawamba for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
