Lady Rangers Suffer 3-2 Setback to Visiting Lady Indians

SENATOBIA – Two quick goals by visiting Itawamba in a span of 1:22 opened up a two-goal lead midway through the second half, and the Lady Indians were able to hold on for a 3-2 north division victory Wednesday afternoon over Northwest.

Itawamba moved to 3-3-1 overall and improved to 3-1 in division play. Northwest fell to 3-3 overall and dropped to 1-2 in league action.

The Lady Indians took control of the match with a goal just 3:11 into the first half, using Haley Walker's fourth goal of the year from outside the box on an Ashley Malone delivery.

Northwest appeared to tie the match in the 52nd minute when Alex Young's header hit off the post and crossed the line, but the referee ruled it did not and Shaina Cruse picked up two, huge back-to-back saves for ICC.

Northwest finally found the equalizer two minutes later off an own goal.

Olivia Heine put Itawamba back in front in the 62nd minute off a Katie Proctor assist, and the Lady Indians tacked on another in the 63rd minute to make it a 3-1 advantage late.

Emily Williams' second goal of the year, a header off a perfect cross from Yanira Cura, brought Northwest within a goal in the 79th minute but they would get no closer the rest of the way.

Northwest owned a 15-8 shot advantage on the afternoon and drew eight corners to ICC's one, but they couldn't find the back of the net when they needed to.

Cruse earned the win for ICC with eight saves, while Ashlee Rogers had five for Northwest.

Northwest will look to get back on track Friday when they travel to East Central for a 2 p.m. kick.
