AMORY – Rained out on day two of the 2012 MACJC State Tournament at Riverbirch Golf Club, Northwest fired an opening-round 310 to finish in a tie for second place with East Mississippi in qualifying for the Region XXIII Tournament.

Gulf Coast captured its third consecutive state championship with a 297, led by individual medalist Brad Thornton who shot a 2-under-par 70. Northwest, East Mississippi and Copiah-Lincoln (311) rounded out the Top 4 who will play next week in Tupelo.

The Rangers were led by second team all-state selection Chad Cupples who fired an even-par 72 and first team all-state nod Cameron Thomas with a 75. Sam Cooper (81), Dylan Baskins (82) and Jack Byrd (82) rounded out the Northwest finishers, who all placed in the Top 26.

Northwest will return to the links on April 22-23 at Big Oaks, looking to better last year's second place finish at the Region Tournament by bringing home the trophy.
