SENATOBIA – Northwest combined for 25 runs off 20 hits on Wednesday afternoon to pick up a pair of run-rule wins over Arkansas Baptist, 12-1 and 13-5, and run its season-long winning streak out to four games.
Northwest improved to 9-3-1 overall while the visiting Lady Buffaloes fell to 0-4.
In the opening game of the day, the Rangers jumped on the board with seven runs in the first and never looked back. Natalie Smock and Vicki Johnson each delivered two-RBI hits, with Amanda Bies and Anna Barham following with RBI-triples.
Northwest added two in the second and three more in the third, and cruised to the win behind the arms of Stormy Robison and Jamie Kilpatric who combined for a two-hitter while striking out four.
In the finale, Arkansas Baptist put a scare into the Rangers early before Northwest was able to rally late.
Robison's two-run homer in the first, her third in three games, helped Northwest take an early 5-0 lead.
But the Lady Buffaloes showed some fight with four runs in the third, pulling with 5-4. Sharicka Jones drew a one-out hit-by-pitch, and Arkansas Baptist rallied off that with four hits in the frame.
Northwest responded with eight unanswered runs over the third and fourth to stretch the lead back out to 13-4, using RBIs from five different Rangers including an RBI-single for Bies.
Emily Hatcher (3-1) picked up the win for the Rangers in 1 2/3 innings of work, allowing four hits and two runs (both unearned). Smock closed out the win in the fifth in an inning of work.
As a team, Northwest hit .417 on the day (20-for-48) with six doubles, three triples and a home run.
The Rangers return to action on Thursday, traveling to Itawamba for a pair beginning at 2 p.m.
