Monique Biggins' 11th double-double of the season, including second consecutive 17-rebound effort, was not enough Monday night as visiting Mississippi Delta pulled away with late free throws for a 69-61 win over Northwest.
Mississippi Delta evened its season record to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in the north while Northwest fell to 7-8 overall and 1-5 in division play.
In a back-and-forth affair all night long, the teams were tied 10 times and exchanged nine lead changes.
Neither team shot the ball well the opening 20 minutes, with Northwest outshooting Delta 34 to 24 percent, but the Lady Rangers took a 29-26 lead at the half thanks to 15 bench points.
Northwest opened the second half with a small 8-2 spurt to take its largest lead of the game at 36-28 with 18:16 to play, thanks to five consecutive points from Shermeka Lewis.
After the game was tied for a 10th time at 53-all with 7:07 remaining, Delta's Jocelyn Jordan connected on her lone 3-pointer of the night to put the Lady Trojans back ahead – a lead they would maintain the rest of the way for the important road win.
Delta was held without a field goal the final 4:05 and Northwest was held without one the final 2:50, with the difference down the stretch being 8 of 12 free throws made from the Lady Trojans.
Calmetta Greyer finished with a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds for Delta, followed by 11 from Deshaundra Eatmon. Northwest was paced by Shaquilla Isom's 15 points, nine from Jearica McBride and Biggins' 10 points and 17 boards.
