Rangers Overcome 14-Point Second Half Deficit, Top Delta 73-65

SENATOBIA – Freshman Domonique Harris pumped in his second-straight 20-point effort off the bench and fellow frosh DeMarcus McVay posted his third career double-double as Northwest overcame a 14-point second half deficit to earn a hard-fought, 73-65 win over Mississippi Delta Monday night.

Northwest ran its season-long winning streak out to five games in improving to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the north. Delta dropped to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in north division action.

The teams traded leads in the opening 10 minutes of the half before Delta broke a 16-16 tie with 16-5 run to take its largest lead of the half at 11. Northwest would close the period with a 3-pointer by Tevin Moore to make it 32-24 at the break.

Xzabian Ramiz rattled home three 3s and scored 12 first half points for the Trojans who shot 43 percent in the half against 31 percent shooting for the Rangers.

Delta continued to pour it on to start the second half, building a game-high 14-point lead with 15:53 remaining. Sean Harris and LaQuavius Cotton combined to score nine consecutive points for the Trojans, who led 43-29.

Northwest fought back to make it a two-point game, 49-47, after an 18-6 run over the ensuing 7:19.

After exchanging baskets and leads over the next few minutes, Northwest pulled back in front 53-51 with 6:46 left in the game, its first lead since the 7:20-mark of the first half.

Trailing 56-55 after a free throw by Harry Williams, Harris took over for the Rangers. The freshman knocked down a baseline jumper to put Northwest back in front at 57-56 and delivered a breakaway dunk minutes later (watch here) for two of his 11 points over the final 4:07.

A 13-2 run put the game well in control of Northwest, capping a huge come-from-behind win.

Harris closed the night 7 of 11 from the floor for 21 points and added nine rebounds, followed by 17 points and five steals from Kenyatta Jones and 14 points and 14 rebounds from McVay.

Delta was paced by Cotton's 20 points and seven rebounds in addition to 12 from Ramiz.
