Jones' Career Night Helps Northwest Over Arkansas Baptist 86-75

SENATOBIA – Freshman guard Kenyatta Jones knocked down six 3s as part of a career night with 25 points and three other Rangers finished in double figures as Northwest snapped a three-game losing streak with an 86-75 win over Arkansas Baptist.

Northwest improved to 4-7 on the year and 3-2 at home, while Arkansas Baptist had a five-game winning streak snapped in falling to 8-10 on the season.

Jones got the scoring started in the early going, burying home a 3-pointer to give Northwest the game's first points. DeMarcus McVay's jumper minutes later gave the Rangers a 5-4 lead before Arkansas Baptist turned towards Ladon Carter.

Carter scored 18 of his team-high 22 points in the opening half, including nine of his team's first 13 points of the game, to give the visitors their largest lead at 18-12 with 11:28 remaining.

Sparked by Darius Woods off the bench, Northwest quickly turned a six-point deficit into a five point lead, 23-18, after an 11-0 spurt for the Rangers over the ensuing 3:04. Woods' 3-pointer capped the run, also picking up three assists and two steals during the stretch.

The teams exchanged buckets the rest of the half, with the Rangers leading 37-33 at the break.

Arkansas Baptist wouldn't get inside double digits until the game's final 2 minutes, cutting the lead down to eight when the game was already over with.

Despite being outrebounded 44-27 on the night, Northwest capitalized from the free throw line by hitting 26-of-35 attempts and knocked down eight shots from downtown. The Rangers finished at 47 percent shooting, while ABC closed at 46 percent.

McVay and Woods each chipped in 15 points behind K. Jones' 25, followed by 11 from Jordan Hulsey who was perfect from the floor. Woods added eight assists and six steals in 23 minutes off the bench. Carter led ABC with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
