Strong Second Half Lifts Northwest over Mid-South, 85-58

SENATOBIA – The Northwest Lady Ranger basketball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with an impressive 85-58 win over visiting Mid-South (Ark.) on Tuesday night, their third consecutive win over the Lady Greyhounds.

A total of 13 different Rangers found the scoring column on the night, paced by a game-high 16 points from freshman Shaquilla Isom on 7-of-11 shooting and 10 points apiece from freshman Bridgette Griffin and sophomore Sherneal Thompson.

Playing the starters just four minutes to open the first half, Northwest trailed 31-28 at the break.

With the original five back in the lineup a majority of the second half, Northwest opened on a 19-1 run over the opening 6:27 and never looked back. Northwest outscored Mid-South 57-27 the final 20 minutes to pull away for a convincing double digit win.

Northwest forced 47 turnovers on the evening and recorded 21 steals, led by seven from freshman Monique Biggins and four from sophomore Erica Turner.

Freshman Kristiana Fisher led the Lady Rangers off the bench, scoring nine points and adding seven rebounds and five assists in 18 minutes. As a team, Northwest reserves outscored Mid-South 37-24.

The Lady Rangers will open a five-game road swing on Thursday, traveling to Utica for a 6 p.m. tipoff against Hinds. Northwest dropped a 61-52 decision to the Lady Bulldogs last season in Senatobia.
