MARION, Ark. – Behind freshman
Monique Biggins' fourth double-double of the season and a dominating effort on the boards, Northwest led from start to finish in an 80-52 win at Mid-South Tuesday night.
Northwest swept the season series and improved to 4-0 all-time against Mid-South, pushing its season record out to 6-1 – their best start since the 1998-99 season. The Lady Greyhounds fell to 0-9.
Northwest opened with the game's first nine points to take the early lead, stretching it out to as many as 22 points in the opening half.
Neither team shot well the opening 20 minutes, with Northwest shooting 33 percent and Mid-South connecting on just 23 percent, but the Lady Rangers would take a 36-20 lead into halftime.
A 23-6 run for Northwest midway through the second half put the game out of reach, as the Lady Rangers got baskets from five different players and led 67-34 with 7:57 to play.
A total of 12 different Lady Rangers got on the scoreboard on the night, paced by a game-high 16 points from freshman Shaquilla Isom, 13 points from Biggins and 10 points off the bench from Brittani Smith. Biggins chipped in 15 boards for her double-double, while Turner added 11 rebounds. Freshman Kristiana Fisher also had a nice game in 10 minutes off the bench, scoring eight points and adding a pair of assists.
Mid-South was paced by 11 points apiece from Shametress Williams and Ciara Ingram.
