Northwest Falls for Second Time at Coca-Cola Classic, 73-61

SUMMIT – Northwest closed out the 2011 Southwest Coca-Cola Classic with a 73-61 loss to Copiah-Lincoln on Tuesday, marking a fourth consecutive loss for the Rangers after starting the season 2-0.

Copiah-Lincoln evened its season mark to 3-3 and picked up a second win in five days over Northwest, while the Rangers dropped to 2-4 on the young season.

Joseph Cunningham's game-high 14 points off the bench paced five Wolves in double figures, with Copiah-Lincoln shooting 65 percent in the second half and 51 percent for the game.

Anthony Davis' layup at the 13:01-mark gave Copiah-Lincoln an 11-9 lead, one they wouldn't surrender the final 33 minutes of regulation. They would stretch the lead to a game-high 26 points with 5:25 to play.

Northwest fought hard down the stretch thanks to strong bench play, closing the game on a 23-9 run.

La'Barron Collins scored 10 points and added five rebounds to lead a group of Ranger reserves who combined to score 38 points. Chris Kelley added eight points and a game-high five assists. Jordan Hulsey was the high man for Northwest, scoring 11 points and adding six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Northwest will close out a five-game road swing on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Mid-South (Ark.).
